Ict as we all
know is revolving, things come and go, new product rolls in and at the same
time becomes obsolete almost immediately.
There is this
fear not to be left behind, that is why the Federal Govt have pump millions of
naira creating IOT awareness.
Nigeria
Association of Computer science Students (NACOSS) University of Abuja Chapter,
organises her 1st ever IOT EXHIBITION, Theme: THE IDEA.
The exhibition
aim at bringing out the best in every students, that are skilled in
programming, Networking, Hardware's, Graphics and IOT.
The exhibition
which is going to be a yearly invent, making this the first of his kind, for
students to display various solutions for solving various problems in our
societies.
We write to seek
for sponsorship for this great invent.
The Exhibition
is grouped into five (5) categories:
·
ENVIRONMENTAL
SOLUTIONS
·
AGRICULTURAL
SOLUTIONS
·
CAMPUS
SOLUTIONS
·
MEDICAL SOLUTIONS
·
CITIES/SECURITY
SOLUTIONS
Each company can be the brand/sponsor of any selected group.
The exhibition which is capital Intensive, due we also seek
for GOLD,SILVER,BRONZE sponsor of the events, attached to this document is the
breakdown of the Exhibition.
The ability to access and control objects over the Internet, being fuelled by the Internet of Things (IoT), has brought together city planners, facility managers and technology experts in the drive to utilize Internet technologies in the management of city facilities and infrastructure.
This is the concept of smart cities. The goal is to leverage technology in the management and control of city facilities and infrastructure in order to attain the goals of efficiency, optimization of resource utilization, sustainable development and all-round convenience for city dwellers.
These ideas
and technologies can also be applied in creating smart, that is,
technology-driven, campuses. Universities, being educational institutions, the
goal for smart campuses is to create environments that are conducive for
learning, and to utilize technology to make knowledge easily accessible for
students and staff and leverage them optimally in the processes of teaching,
learning, research and recreation. By adopting the smart university approach,
we can use technology to resolve many of the perennial problems besetting our
university campuses in Nigeria.
Purpose: As part of the process of smartening Cities, Campuses
Environment, Agriculture and Medicine this projects seeks to utilize IoT
technologies in the management of campus waste materials, recording of class
attendances by students, and the control of air/sound pollution.
Firstly,
unattended waste bins are a major source of air pollution which, often times
results in health hazards. Lack of a reliable system for real-time monitoring
of waste bins has been identified as the major factor leading to the phenomenon
of waste bins being left un-attended.
Secondly,
class attendance up to an acceptable level is one of the requirements for
completing a course before students can write exams. In a bid to always ensure
that students satisfy this requirement, lecturers employ some method of
attendance record keeping by way of having students write down their names/matriculation
number or tick against their names at each lecture. However, this method leaves
much to be desired, in that it is time wasting and prone to manipulation (e.g.,
students writing or ticking for absent classmates).
Thirdly, air
and noise pollution is of concern on the campus, particularly in laboratory,
workshop and library areas. The ability to monitor the air quality for the
presence of unacceptable levels of harmful gases will greatly alleviate such
safety concerns. Sound pollution control solution can be implemented in quiet
areas like the library, classroom and office areas of the campus ETC
Approach: The first step in executing this project is to a
produce design for each of the three identified tasks based on an understanding
of how it can be best utilized to solve the problem at hand. In this way,
requirements for the project will be identified and enumerated. Design diagrams
will then be produced. The designs in this project will be based around the
Arduino microcontroller board, popular for its robust interfacing and
programming capabilities. The other components that might be required are:
sensors, RFID cards, connectors, bread boards, capacitors, resistors, and a
waste bin. Programming will be done with C and the Arduino MC compiler. After
construction, the devices will then be extensively tested for effectiveness.
Expected
Outcomes and Benefits: With the execution of this project, we expect to
introduce the use of technology in tackling some of the problems that have long
defied solutions on our campuses. In particular, the timely disposal of wastes
and air quality monitoring can have major beneficial impacts on the health of
students and staff on the campus, while the attendance monitoring system will
improve class attendance by students, thereby raising academic standards. The
project will also expose Computer Science students of the University of Abuja
to some of the latest technologies in the field, giving them valuable
experience in the construction of actual useable devices. This will enrich
their educational experience, improve their skills levels and also kindle their
entrepreneurial spirit.
